While I enthusiastically attended one of the first in a converted church in The Otways, I’d missed all the others and was pleased to be invited. This group of men have had annual getaways since the 90s but this was special, their 25 th. I was reconsidering my weekend trip to Rye with friends. Driving home, I was hit by a wave of fatigue and a case of FOMOOS (Fear Of Missing Out On Sleep) and stopped for a power nap in a quiet side street. I’d had a busy week on the radio, filling in for David Astle, then doing The Friday Revue. With his characteristic dry wit, Zevon simply said, “Enjoy every sandwich”. We were talking about Zevon’s death and how David Letterman devoted an entire show to him just before he died, asking Zevon what he’d learned about death. Last week, Henry Wagons was playing our ‘ Whattareyounuts?’ game and discussing his tribute show to singer songwriter Warren Zevon. Sometimes a comment from The Friday Revue really resonates with me.
